So we have decided to get ourselves out of the renting game and get our own house! We've finally, after 8 or so years of saving, have the savings to do this. So what do we do? Do we buy an existing property? Do we get a renovator? Surely we can't build a home.... or can we???
Due to the changes in first home owners rules we can actually afford to build a house before buying an existing property. I find that crazy but so exciting for us. Never thought we'd be building our very first family home.
So who do we go with? So many options. What can we afford, what can't we afford. Which builder and most importantly which design? Layout is everything, especially with a shift worker husband and 3 small children. We've spend months looking at about a million different designs. Then finally we found Allworth.
We had a chat with them and amazingly they were within our budget and had a design my husband and I both LOVED. The Winton! It's perfect! After further discussions however we realised that a lot of things were not included (carpets, tiles etc) BUT they told us of their promo series and there it was. The Serenade. It was basically the same as the Winton. This is all too good to be true!
So backtracking a bit... we bought a block of land but we've had a massive delay on it. We paid a deposit on it nearly 15mths ago and had to wait ages for it to be registered so while that was all going through, we've proceeded with Allworth (even though we went outside our tender time and had to cop a $5,500 price increase). Made changes to the design to suit our family.
So
at this stage, we are all set to have something begin on the land!
We've had everything approved, we've done our colour selections, our
tile selections and our electrical layout. We had our construction
certificate issued on the 20th October and are currently 6th in line.
Allworth have until the 17th Nov to have started something so after
soooooo long waiting I am really really excited to see something take
shape!
Nice blog..lol
ReplyDeleteGood luck with allworth.
Hi Nel, just wondering how long it took for council approval? We will be going through Maitland Council so just wanted to get an idea of how long ill be waiting lol.
ReplyDeleteHi Jess, Allworth used a certifier, so it didn't go through council. It still took about 4wks.
